The DOE’s Cybersecurity for Energy Resilience Summit (CyFERS), held in July 2025 in Salt Lake City, brought together representatives from 40 U.S. states, energy companies, and national labs to address growing cyber threats to the energy sector. The summit, organized by the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), focused on enhancing cooperation between federal and state governments and private sector stakeholders. Sessions included tabletop exercises, threat intelligence briefings, and discussions on how to strengthen operational resilience against cyber-physical threats.
CESER Director Alex Fitzsimmons emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in protecting national energy infrastructure and enabling broader goals such as AI innovation and domestic manufacturing. The event underscored the importance of building long-term collaboration frameworks and trust-based information sharing, ensuring that state and local governments are better prepared to respond to cyber incidents affecting the nation’s power grid and fuel systems.
