The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released new and updated planning tools aimed at helping drinking water and wastewater utilities bolster their cybersecurity posture. These include a customizable Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan template, updated Incident Action Checklists tailored for cyber-related emergencies, and a Cybersecurity Procurement Checklist to help evaluate vendor security practices during acquisitions. The documents support the sector in aligning incident response, recovery and procurement activities with evolving threat environments and regulatory expectations.
Together, these resources reflect a shift toward operationalizing cyber resilience across water infrastructure. They emphasise the need for utilities to integrate cyber considerations into emergency response planning, assess supply-chain risk when procuring technology, and ensure response readiness for both cyber and physical hazards. For organisations responsible for public-health infrastructure, adopting such standards strengthens both the ability to prevent incidents and to respond effectively when they occur.
